While we can never comment on the security of your personal computer - which depends on who has access to your computer, and what software is installed on it - as long as you use webmail (which is protected by
SSL by default), or
IMAP with
SSL, and don't share you account password, there is very little chance someone will be able to hack into your account and access the mail stored on the server.
Our mail system is extremely secure. Our security experts maintain the highest level of security for our servers by ensuring that all software is kept up-to-date, by relying on secure open-source standardized architecture components, and by using a variety of security software and devices.
The most likely source of security problems for your account is your personal computer. Certain viruses and other malicious "hacker" programs, that can be installed on personal computers, record key strokes, thereby providing a hacker with access to your account password. Ensuring that you keep up-to-date with anti-virus software, and avoiding to run suspicious programs on your computer, will help to reduce the chances of having these malicious software applications installed on your computer.
One other important thing to note: We cannot guarantee the security of Mail sent to and received from users outside our system. While the odds of someone intercepting sent/received mail outside our system is quite low, it is possible due to the underlying design of email in general. Overall this is not something we recommend being concerned about as it takes a significant and concerted effort for someone to intercept mail in transit (as much effort could always be applied to simple hack into the account of the person sending/receiving the mail - assuming their mail system or computer is less secure than our).
